Fix Buffering — Step by Step
The fastest fix: run the Buffering Guide inside the SMC app
Run it on the device that's actually buffering. It tests that device directly and pinpoints the problem — no guessing.

Buffering almost always comes down to how the stream reaches your device — not the service itself. Work through these in order and stop when it clears up.
1. Wired beats Wi-Fi, every time
Plug an ethernet cable from your router straight into the box. This single change fixes most buffering. Wi-Fi shares bandwidth with every phone, tablet and camera in the house, and walls kill it.
If you can''t run a cable, move the device to the same room as the router, or add a powerline adapter / mesh node.
2. Restart the box AND the router
Unplug both from power (not just the remote''s power button), wait 30 seconds, plug the router back in first, wait for it to fully come online, then power the box back up. Stale connections and overheated routers are a real cause of nightly buffering.
3. Run a speed test on the device itself
Test from the streaming device, not your phone. You want:
- 15+ Mbps steady for one 4K stream
- 25+ Mbps if multiple people are watching at once
- Low, stable ping — big spikes matter more than raw speed
If the numbers are far below what you pay for, the problem is your internet provider, not the stream.
4. Clear the app cache
Settings → Apps → your player app → Storage → Clear cache (never "Clear data" unless you want to re-enter your login). A bloated cache causes stutter and slow channel loading.
Reboot the device afterwards.
5. Don''t exceed your plan''s connections
Every plan has a connection limit. If more devices are streaming than your plan allows, streams throttle or drop — and old sessions can hang around. Sign out of devices you''re not using, and remember that a second TV, a phone and a tablet all count.
Need more? Upgrading connections takes a minute — just ask us.
6. Try the backup line
If we provided a backup line/server with your setup, switch to it. If one line buffers and the backup runs clean, it''s a route issue on our end and we''ll get it moved — message us and we''ll sort it.
